The Most Holy Rosary Beads and Prayers

The Most Holy Rosary is a simple method of Christian prayer. It is deemed the Most Holy because it was given to us by the Divine Grace of God through the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Rosary is a powerful means of grace, peace, and miracles. The Holy Rosary is a very devout way to pray for peace and family unity.

We believe that God favors those who humble themselves to pray the Rosary of His Blessed Mother. Jesus and Mary have repeatedly urged us to devote and entrust ourselves to the Rosary.

The Rosary method engages our minds and hearts in prayer. Beads are used to keep track of the prayers of the Rosary. Thus, we free our minds for prayerful meditation. As our fingers travel along the Rosary Beads we pray aloud the prayers and as we hear them, we are not distracted by other things. We can visualize the events in the lives of Jesus and His Blessed Mother.

The Rosary Consists of 4 Sets of Mysteries. Each of the 4 sets of Mysteries has 5 Mysteries. The Mysteries are known as decades. The entire Rosary consists of 20 decades. One decade includes the Our Father (large bead), 10 Hail Mary's (small beads) and 1 Glory Be and Fatima Prayer (on the chain before the next large bead). The thoughts have been arranged so that the story of each Mystery unfolds.

Praying the Rosary Mysteries and Prayers

Prayers Used In the Rosary and Steps to Praying the Rosary
  1. Make the Sign of the Cross. and then Recite the Apostles Creed.

  2. On the first large bead recite the Our Father.

  3. On the three small beads recite the Hail Mary 3 times once each for faith, hope and charity and then recite the Glory Be.

  4. On the large bead recall the first Mystery and pray the Our Father

  5. On each of the adjacent ten small beads (also referred to as a decade) recite a Hail Mary while reflecting on the mystery.

  6. Before the next large bead, recite the Glory Be to the Father, and the Fatima Prayer.

  7. On the Large Bead Announce the Mystery and then pray the Our Father,

  8. Then on each of the 10 small beads Pray the Hail Mary,

  9. Followed by the Glory Be, and Fatima Prayer "O my Jesus" Repeat Steps 7-9 for all the mysteries.

  10. After the fifth Mystery is completed conclude with the Hail Holy Queen and end with the Sign of the Cross.

The whole Rosary is composed of twenty decades. Each set of mysteries contains 5 decades. Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious.  Each decade is recited in honor of a mystery in Our Lord's Life and that of his Blessed Mother.

Usually recitation is for five decades at a time which equals one set of mysteries. The Rosary can be completed after any one of the 4 sets of mysteries are concluded.

You may say all the mysteries or say one of the sets of mysteries over several days. In order to have time to focus on the mysteries Pope John Paul II proposed  that the Rosary be said over several days. The Mysteries and the recommended days are listed in the table above.

15 Promises of Mary to Christians Who Pray The Rosary
01 Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.
02 I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
03 The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
04 It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the heart of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, the soul that would sanctify themselves by this means.
05 The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
06 Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
07 Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
08 Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
09 I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10 The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.
11 You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12 All those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13 I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death.
14 All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15 Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.
There are other forms for praying the Rosary and there many different kinds of rosaries that you can use. The method described on this web is for a full rosary. Different kinds of rosary beads include rosary chains, finger rosaries, rosary bracelets, and rosary cards.
